11 days until we depart!

Time is flying. We depart in 11 days. The kids have this week of school left and two half days and two whole days of school next week. They have already informed me that they will have no homework anymore, that they are really not doing any work in class - so WHAT are they doing?

They both have "field day" this week and the class parties next week - what IS in between? They are both very excited about leaving.

We have started having family meetings - Saturday night was our first after dinner. We each got to say something that we were happy/excited about, something that they wanted to complain about (and then we discuss how we are going to resolve) and then we speak about what we have planned for next week --schedule wise. Ben took all the notes of our meeting - and he was very serious about the notes. We posted our schedule for the week. Both kids were happy/excited about leaving for China - (that was my point in explaining about our family meeting!)

I made the ritual trip to Target, to find all those "things" you are supposed to pack - from imodium to sanitizer to travel size "stuff" (although - will it be enough for 3 weeks?), cheap pajamas for kids, etc. To really challenge our coordination abilities - we arrive home from China July 15. On July 17, Saturday, Herb and Ben get on a plane for MN where Ben will be going to camp for a month (!) So, double packing, different clothes, stuff, etc. I actually bought 25 pairs of underwear for Ben - I am assuming he will lose quite a bit at camp and that with 4 people's dirty laundry from China, we will need to be very organized to get him ready!

So...the prep begins in earnest and it is getting very exciting - 4 bags to check - no more than 44 pounds each because of domestic travel in China constraints, small carry-on - 3 weeks!

Thank goodness for good Chinese laundries!
